A snapshot of Google in 2003
I embarked on my SEO journey in 2003, a time when achieving a top Google ranking meant strategically inserting keywords throughout web pages. I was an active participant in forums, such as SEO Book founded by SEO pioneer Aaron Wall.
My career in SEO evolved as I built websites that ranked well at a one-off price. However, as Google's landscape became more competitive and link building gained prominence, I adopted automated link building strategies. This was widely accepted until the 2012 Penguin update, which penalised unnatural link building practices overnight. Post-Penguin, the industry shifted towards traditional marketing techniques and creating engaging, keyword-driven content.
Our view of Brighton at Bamboo Nine
In 2016, I joined Bamboo Nine, a small digital marketing agency, tasked with building the SEO department from the ground up. For the first year, I personally handled all SEO tasks, from building websites and conducting keyword research to creating content, link outreach, and technical SEO. I developed all the processes, reports, and proposals, which led to new client acquisition. By the time I departed in 2025, the team had grown to over 60 individuals, generating £125k per month in SEO retainers alone.
Currently, I'm seeking a select number of clients for regular collaboration to enhance their SEO and marketing strategies, while also supporting my income as I focus on Market Ninja's development. If you're interested in working together, please feel free to reach out.
